Spring bedding

Monday 5th November
Weather: Beautiful

We worked with people from the symposia today on spring bedding in different areas of the garden.

Contemplating Lupins Tutti Frutti in the bed adjacent to the 'Cat Garden'

Putting boards down as we work and get further into the bed so that we don't damage the soil structure and protect the path & grass areas

We dug out an area in the Long Border around the Pleioblastus variegatus which include a Salvia 'Indigo Spires' dwarf variety at the front. Then we planted in Lupin 'The Pages' and had Aquilegia crysantha 'Yellow Queen' on one side of it and Tulipa 'Red Shine' threaded through it. On the whole if the soil is good we don't put any extra organic matter down for spring bedding annuals.

Laying plants down before planting & using canes to mark out planting - the Aquilegia on the left and the lupins on the right

Laying tulip bulbs out
