Deep plant cleansing

Thursday 8th November
Weather: Very beautiful sunny day, mild. 12 °C

Teasing soil out of every milimetre of root

I started the day by lifting some Canna 'General Eisenhower' from the Exotic Garden. Then I spent the rest of the day stripping plants of every speck of soil with a toothbrush. Some of the people from the symposia wanted to take plants back to the USA and to do so the plants have to go through strict regulations. They will go through a series of inspections - a man from DEFRA will come along to check that they are cleaned to the correct requirements and then they will be officially inspected by customs.
